Atlanta is starting Saturday, October 3, around 70 degrees, with possible reduced visibility and deteriorating aviation conditions, but the quiet morning will not last. Temperatures should climb to about 85 degrees before scattered showers and thunderstorms become more likely this afternoon and evening.
Saturday Starts Foggy, Then Turns Stormy
Rain chances remain limited early Saturday, with storms becoming more likely from late morning through the afternoon. The National Weather Service, which issued the forecast discussion, says scattered storms could produce locally heavy downpours, although many parts of the metro should still get some dry time.
Saturday night brings a 70% chance of showers and thunderstorms, with a low near 68 degrees. Rainfall amounts of roughly one-quarter to one-half inch are possible, setting the stage for a much wetter Sunday.
Sunday Looks Like The Weekend Washout
Showers and thunderstorms are expected across Atlanta on Sunday, October 4, with a 90% chance of rain and a high near 74 degrees. Sunday night stays wet, with an 80% rain chance and temperatures falling to around 66 degrees.
Forecasters expect widespread rainfall from Sunday into Monday, with 1 to 3 inches possible across much of the region and locally higher totals favored along and south of the I-85 corridor. That raises the risk of localized flash flooding, especially where repeated downpours overwhelm storm drains, though no watches, warnings or advisories are currently posted for Atlanta.
Cooler Air Arrives Tuesday
Precipitation chances remain elevated across central Georgia through Wednesday night, with daytime highs mainly in the 70s Monday through Thursday.
A cooler, drier air mass is expected by Tuesday.
