Low clouds are spreading into coastal San Diego and are expected to increase through sunrise Tuesday; temperatures are in the mid-60s before partly sunny skies push the afternoon high near 78 degrees. The warm, quiet start will not last long: showers and possible thunderstorms are expected to move in by midweek.
Rain Arrives Wednesday Night
Tuesday night turns mostly cloudy with a low around 63, while Wednesday is forecast to be mostly sunny, with showers possibly spreading into coastal areas during the afternoon. By Wednesday night, showers, thunderstorms and pockets of heavy rain are possible.
Thursday looks like the wettest and coolest day, with showers and thunderstorms and a high near 69. The probability of at least 0.10 inch of rain is greater than 90% for the period from Wednesday morning through Thursday night. Cumulative rainfall in San Diego County is forecast at about 1 inch in the north and 0.50 to 0.75 inch in the south.
Dangerous Surf Continues Along The Coast
A Beach Hazards Statement remains in effect through Tuesday evening for San Diego County coastal areas. Surf is expected to reach 3 to 5 feet, with sets up to 6 feet, while dangerous rip currents will be most concerning along south- and southwest-facing beaches.
Conditions dry out Friday, when skies turn mostly sunny and temperatures reach about 71 degrees. The weekend then rebounds into the upper 70s Saturday and low 80s Sunday and Monday, giving San Diego a quick return to warmer weather after the midweek soak.
