San Diego is waking up under clear skies Saturday morning, with a sunny afternoon ahead and a high near 75. The weekend will get warmer, but coastal residents are also facing a serious high-tide flooding threat beginning Sunday morning.
Coastal Flood Warning Starts Sunday
A Coastal Flood Warning will be in effect from 5 a.m. Sunday through 1 p.m. Thursday for San Diego County coastal areas and nearby Orange County beaches. The National Weather Service says high tides could run 1 to 1.7 feet above predictions, potentially flooding low-lying roads, properties, businesses and infrastructure.
Morning high tides are expected to reach nearly 7 feet Saturday and could exceed 7.5 feet or even 8 feet beginning Monday. Shoreline erosion is also possible.
Sunny Weekend, Warm Start To Next Week
Saturday night should stay mostly clear, with a low around 61, followed by a sunny Sunday with a high near 78. Monday looks like the warmest day of the stretch at about 80 degrees, while Tuesday should reach 78 and Wednesday 76.
Winds around the city and coast will generally stay light, though some inland and mountain areas could see stronger northerly gusts. The sunny, warmer pattern is a notable shift from the showers and unsettled conditions covered in Hoodline's earlier forecast.
Clouds And Showers Return Late Next Week
Clouds will gradually increase by Thursday, when the high is expected to fall to about 73 degrees. The forecast gives San Diego a chance of rain showers Thursday night, with precipitation chances increasing Friday into the weekend and timing uncertain. Friday's high is expected to be near 70.
