San Diego is starting Sunday under clear skies, with temperatures in the mid-60s early and a sunny high near 85 degrees expected this afternoon. The warm, dry day will be the last big taste of summer before cooler air, coastal fog and a wet midweek pattern move in.
Beach Hazards Continue Through Tuesday
Beachgoers should be especially cautious along San Diego County’s coast Sunday through Tuesday morning. The National Weather Service has issued a Beach Hazards Statement for dangerous rip currents and breaking waves, with surf building to 3 to 6 feet and local sets reaching 7 feet along south- and southwest-facing beaches.
Officials recommend staying out of the water or remaining near an occupied lifeguard tower. Rock jetties can be particularly dangerous in these conditions, and waves may sweep people from beaches or rocks with little warning.
Fog Arrives As Temperatures Ease Back
Monday will remain sunny but cooler, with a high near 80 degrees. Patchy fog is expected late Monday night and into Tuesday morning, followed by partly sunny skies and a high around 77 on Tuesday.
The marine layer will become more noticeable as onshore flow returns, bringing a sharper change from Sunday’s heat. Rain chances increase by Wednesday night.
Rain And Thunderstorms Take Over Midweek
Showers and thunderstorms are expected Wednesday night into Thursday, when temperatures may struggle to reach 69 degrees.
The National Weather Service says the storm system could produce locally heavy rainfall if thunderstorms develop, although the main expectation is widespread light to moderate rain.
