New Orleans started Thursday morning, October 22, clear and around 66 degrees, with sunshine expected to push afternoon temperatures near 79. The city is settling into another dry stretch, but the lack of rain is making fire safety the bigger weather story.
Sunny Days, Cooler Nights
The National Weather Service forecast calls for clear skies Thursday night and a low near 60, followed by another sunny day Friday with a high near 80. Saturday and Sunday will be a little cooler, with east to northeast winds increasing, making the weekend feel breezier, especially near the coast, according to the National Weather Service.
Dry Stretch Raises Fire Concerns
Dry conditions are expected through Tuesday, with no meaningful increase in rain chances. In a follow-up to Hoodline’s earlier forecast, the latest outlook extends the mostly sunny pattern through Wednesday while warning that dry vegetation and drought conditions can help escaped fires spread.
The weather service says afternoon humidity will fall into the mid-20s to mid-30s through Friday, with the highest fire danger focused inland and north of Interstate 10. A Fire Danger Statement has been issued, and residents should avoid outdoor burning, yard-debris fires and careless handling of cigarettes or grills; breezier easterly winds this weekend could increase the risk even as coastal humidity remains somewhat higher.
What To Expect Next Week
Monday stays mostly sunny with a high near 74, followed by a modest warming trend Tuesday. Overnight lows will remain around 59 to 60 degrees, so the pattern is mild by day and noticeably cooler after dark, with dry conditions expected through Tuesday.
