Providence is starting Sunday, October 4, with clear skies and temperatures in the upper 40s, but the pleasant opening will not last all day. The city should warm to about 65 degrees before scattered showers arrive late this afternoon, followed by a damp, foggy night.
Showers Arrive After A Bright Start
The National Weather Service expects partly sunny skies through much of Sunday, with east winds between 3 and 7 mph. Showers become possible after 4 p.m., and the chance of rain rises toward 40% by early evening, according to the National Weather Service.
Rain chances continue Sunday night as temperatures settle near 52 degrees. The forecast calls for patchy fog and a 50% chance of showers, with rainfall totals potentially reaching between one-half and three-quarters of an inch in parts of the region.
Cooler, Drier Weather Takes Over Monday
Monday brings a quick reset, with mostly sunny skies and a high near 67 degrees. Northwest winds will pick up Monday night as the temperature drops to around 44, setting up a noticeably cooler Tuesday with sunshine and a high near 58.
The latest outlook is a wetter update than the earlier Providence forecast, which had placed the stronger shower threat mainly Sunday night. The previous Hoodline forecast had also pointed to the broader early-week cooldown, which remains the main theme for the days ahead.
Sunny Stretch Returns Later In The Week
Dry, sunny conditions are expected from Tuesday night through the end of the workweek. Highs should rebound to about 64 Wednesday, 69 Thursday and 67 Friday before Saturday lands near 64, while overnight lows mostly run from the low 40s to around 51.
No watches, warnings or advisories are posted for Providence or Rhode Island. For Sunday plans, the best window for outdoor time is earlier in the day, before clouds thicken and showers become more likely toward evening.
