Sunrise Memphis, the locally owned breakfast-and-brunch spot known for its biscuit sandwiches and specialty coffee, is planning to open a third restaurant in Germantown at 7699 Farmington Blvd. A permit filing submitted Oct. 21 to the Memphis and Shelby County Division of Planning and Development would convert an existing building, previously an AutoZone, into the new restaurant.

The Germantown expansion was reported by The Commercial Appeal, which reported that Sunrise will move into the existing Farmington Boulevard building rather than build new. The outlet notes that the locally-owned restaurant currently has two locations: one downtown at 670 Jefferson Ave. and another in East Memphis at 5469 Poplar Ave. The Germantown spot would mark the chain's first move into the suburb.

Memphis Business Journal also confirmed the plans, reporting that owner Ryan Trimm told the outlet Sunrise Memphis is preparing to open its third location. As Action News 5 reported, the new restaurant would operate alongside Sunrise's existing East Memphis and Medical District locations, with the Farmington Boulevard permit filing targeting the conversion of the former AutoZone site into a restaurant.

From a 2017 Downtown Launch to a Growing Local Chain

Sunrise Memphis traces back to 2017, when Ryan Trimm teamed up with Craig Blondis and Roger Sapp of Central BBQ to launch the original downtown restaurant, according to the company's own account on sunrise901.com. That early success led to the opening of Sunrise East in 2022, the site notes, setting the stage for the Germantown expansion now in the works. The restaurant specializes in classic breakfast favorites, lunch staples and specialty drinks.

The menu has grown alongside the brand. The breakfast lineup offers a range of seven biscuit sandwiches and six creative breakfast bowls, along with omelets, patty melts, breakfast tacos, bacon-and-egg plates, coffee, cocktails and lunch options, per the Commercial Appeal's reporting.

Germantown's Brunch Scene Already Has Plenty of Competition

Sunrise won't be alone in the Germantown breakfast market. The area already includes Rise Southern Biscuits at Saddle Creek and First Watch at Poplar and Exeter, as well as locally-owned Staks Kitchen and City Silo, the Commercial Appeal reported.

The suburb's restaurant scene has been active beyond breakfast, too. At least two new restaurants are planned to open soon in Germantown, according to WREG, including Josephine Estelle and Rosie's Tavern, both moving into a new development at 6695 Poplar at Kirby. Bain Barbecue, meanwhile, opened its second location on May 19, 2026, at 2016 S. Germantown Road, just north of Poplar, featuring a drive-thru option while its original Midtown restaurant stays open.

An Earlier Olive Branch Possibility Remains Unsettled

Before Germantown emerged as the target, Sunrise Memphis co-founder Craig Blondis had said the team was scouting Olive Branch, Mississippi, though whatnowmemphis.com reported that a deal there was nowhere close to being finalized. That earlier exploration appears separate from the newly filed Germantown permit, and it remains unclear whether an Olive Branch location will ever materialize.
