An SUV crashed through the front door of Melanie’s Premium Outlet on Bypass Road in Winchester Monday morning, leaving the storefront damaged and the business temporarily shuttered. No one was hurt in the crash, according to the business owners.
The vehicle accidentally went through the front door of the shop, according to WKYT. As reported by LEX 18 News, the store’s owners confirmed the SUV struck the entrance Monday morning and that Melanie’s Premium Outlet is now temporarily closed as a result.
Store Hopes for Quick Fix
Rather than wait for a full repair, the business hopes to build a temporary wall and reopen as soon as possible, per the same station’s report. No timeline has been given for how long the closure will last or when the storefront will be fully repaired.
Melanie’s Premium Outlet has only been part of the Bypass Road retail strip for about two years. The shop opened at 810 Suite B on Bypass Road in October 2024, according to the Winchester Sun, and is owned by Robert Pritchett. Before Monday’s crash, the store typically operated Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., per the Winchester Sun’s earlier report on the shop’s opening.
Not an Isolated Kind of Incident
Storefront crashes like the one in Winchester tend to pop up in local news around the country with some regularity. A business in Northern Kentucky was previously badly damaged after a car crashed into it, according to Local 12 WKRC-TV. In another case, an elderly driver lost control and crashed into the front entrance of a busy Overland Park grocery store, with no injuries reported, according to KMBC.
