Table Mercato’s Boston shop offers a measure of the demand behind its New York expansion. Before the move, the Hanover Street location was estimated to sell 600 to 700 sandwiches on most weekend days, with waits sometimes exceeding an hour, according to Boston Magazine. The magazine’s earlier report said the New York shop was planned with four sandwiches, compared with about a dozen in Boston, and would not carry the flagship’s retail items or prepared foods.

The New York shop opened Sept. 26, 2026. Boston.com reported that it sold through its sandwiches during each of its first two weekends. Owner Jen Royle also told the outlet that lines at the North End location had grown to about twice their previous length.

The early New York demand coincided with a bread supply problem during the shop’s second weekend, Boston.com reported; customers waiting were still served. Royle told the outlet she had not expected the sandwiches to draw attention so quickly and hoped the New York shop would reach half the success of the Boston business.

The signature sandwich combines a chicken cutlet with focaccia from Rhode Island’s Seven Stars Bakery, Boston.com reported. Boston magazine recognized the combination with its 2025 Best Sandwich award.

A restaurant-dense neighborhood

The Hanover Street shop is in a neighborhood with a substantial food-business presence: BU Today reports that the North End has more than 100 restaurants, cafes, and bakeries. That figure provides neighborhood-level context for the setting around Table Mercato.
