Travelers passing through Gerald R. Ford International Airport now have a new reason to arrive early for their flight: Tacos Locos, a quick-service Mexican-inspired restaurant, has opened in the airport's Marketplace, dishing out breakfast tacos until mid-morning and street tacos, burritos and taco salad bowls the rest of the day.

What's on the Menu at the New Marketplace Spot

According to MLive.com, Tacos Locos sits across from the TSA checkpoint and was created by HMSHost, one of the airport's food-and-beverage concession partners, which already operates several restaurants throughout the terminal's concourses. Per the airport's own description on grr.org, the restaurant serves breakfast tacos, breakfast burritos and huevos until 10:30 a.m., before switching over to street tacos, burritos, bolos and taco salad bowls for the rest of the day. There's also a Grab 'n Go fridge stocked with snacks and drinks for guests who need to keep moving toward their gate.

Carlos Ruiz, chief commercial officer of the Gerald R. Ford International Airport Authority, said the addition gives travelers something distinct to look forward to. Ruiz said Tacos Locos adds a unique dining option while continuing the airport's partnership with HMSHost, the same report notes.

Rockford's Boochie Bar Set to Follow This Fall

Tacos Locos isn't the only new name headed to the terminal. Boochie Bar, based in Rockford, is expected to open at the airport by the end of 2026, according to the airport. The acai bowl and kombucha shop is set to land in Terminal B as a takeout spot with additional seating, per What Now Detroit. The outlet reports the owner's current estimate puts the opening around Nov. 15, though that date has not been finalized. WGRD similarly describes a scheduled opening in November 2026.

Boochie Bar's original storefront debuted in September 2023 at 39 Courtland Street in downtown Rockford, the same What Now Detroit report notes. The airport version is expected to carry over the brand's acai bowls, kombucha, smoothies, fancy toasts, salads, wraps and sandwiches — plus protein shakes and bagels, according to the outlet's rundown of the menu.

Part of a Larger Dining Push

The two openings fit into a broader expansion at Ford International, which WGRD reports is underway as part of the airport's $600 million Elevate program, encompassing a Concourse A expansion and a $135 million Terminal Enhancement Project. The airport has leaned on HMSHost for past additions too: the companies partnered to open Leinie Lodge, a pre-security bar in the Grand Hall, back in 2018, and more recently brought a Bell's Brewery location to Concourse B.

The airport has said it expects to open another dining option later in 2026, beyond Tacos Locos and Boochie Bar. The expansion comes as the airport continues to see heavy passenger traffic, with Ford International reporting a daily average of roughly 10,000 passengers moving through its terminal.
