A new restaurant in Taylor Mill, Kentucky, had its opening plans swamped this past weekend after flooding sent more than three inches of water pouring out of its front door, just one day before the management team was scheduled to arrive for training. Taylor House was gearing up for a practice run this week when the water hit, and now the business is in cleanup mode instead of welcoming its first guests.
According to FOX19, the flooding began around 9 p.m. Saturday. The restaurant's owner said he got a call reporting the damage, with water described as pouring out the front door in excess of three inches. The cause of the flooding was not disclosed.
The timing stung in particular because the flooding struck the night before the management team was set to come in and train, derailing a practice run the Taylor House team had been building toward throughout the week. That rehearsal has now been postponed while the cleanup gets underway.
Crews Tackle Soaked Floors And Hidden Moisture
Crews have been pulling out soaked flooring as part of the recovery effort, the station's report notes. The repair list is extensive: trim, drywall and flooring all need attention, along with professional drying and sanitizing. Inspections for hidden moisture are also part of the process, since water damage that looks minor on the surface can linger underneath.
Crews are still assessing just how extensive the damage turned out to be, per the same account. Until that full picture comes into focus, the restaurant's owner is holding off on any promises about when Taylor House will actually open its doors, saying he does not want to commit to a date until he knows what is realistic.
Owner Focused On Staff Who Were Ready To Go
Beyond the physical repairs, the owner said his mind kept returning to the people who had already put in the work. He said he is thinking of his staff, who trained and prepped for a practice run that now has to wait. For a team that was gearing up for its first real test behind the counter, the delay adds an emotional weight on top of the logistical one.
No revised opening date has been announced, and the extent of the damage remains under review. For now, Taylor House's launch in Taylor Mill stays on hold while repair crews work through drying, sanitizing and inspection before anyone can say when the doors will finally open.
