A male victim believed to be in his late teens suffered life-threatening injuries in a shooting Thursday afternoon in St. Louis's Kingsway East neighborhood, police said. Officers responded at about 4:45 p.m. to the 1700 block of North Euclid Avenue and found the victim at a home with a gunshot wound before he was rushed to a hospital.

The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department said the teen was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to Yahoo News. An update on his condition and the circumstances of the shooting was not immediately available, and First Alert 4 reported that police had no further details to share Thursday.

No Word Yet on What Led to the Shooting

No arrests or suspect information had been released as of Thursday, and police have not said what led to the shooting on North Euclid Avenue. It is the latest in a string of shootings involving young victims in the city; in May, a 16-year-old was critically injured in a shooting near Minerva Avenue and Academy Avenue in North City, the same outlet's report noted.

Homicide detectives were also investigating a separate shooting that happened Oct. 10 in the city's Carr Square neighborhood, according to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department. There is no indication the two incidents are connected.

Citywide Numbers Trending Down, Even As Shootings Continue

The Thursday shooting comes even as the city's overall violence statistics have been improving. The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department reported that overall Part I crime declined 16% in 2025 compared with 2024 and 28% compared with 2023, part of a broader downward trend the department has highlighted this year.

Homicides fell to 141 in 2025, with shooting incidents down 28% and juvenile shooting incidents down 17% compared with the prior year, per the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department. The department also said juvenile shooting incidents have been cut in half compared with 2022, and that officers recovered 333 guns and 235 stolen cars last year, resulting in 1,012 arrests.

In a September 5, 2024, statement about crime data through August 2024, Mayor Tishaura O. Jones credited the department and community partners for the improvement, according to the City of St. Louis. “Every life lost to gun violence is one too many, and we have to keep working to bring these numbers down further,” Jones said. “I am incredibly proud of the work done by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, the Office of Violence Prevention, and other City departments and community partners to improve our performance on prevention, intervention, and enforcement.”

A City That Has Seen This Before

St. Louis has a long history of young people caught in gun violence. Back in 2019, the St. Louis Police Department said 13 children had been killed by gun violence in the city since that April, compared with just two children during the same period the previous year, according to Time. Six of those victims were age 10 or younger, while five were between 15 and 16, the outlet reported.

That same stretch included a shooting at Soldan High School in which four people were shot, including an 8-year-old girl who died, and another incident days earlier that killed a 7-year-old and critically wounded an 18-year-old. St. Louis recorded 138 homicides that year, with more than 90% involving guns, Time's report said at the time. Thursday's shooting remains under investigation, and police have not said whether any update on the teen's condition will follow.
