A new restaurant called Tempo Tiempo has opened in downtown Covington, serving comfort food with a Latin-inspired twist from a spot that's quickly become known for smash burgers and jumbo wings. The menu covers smash burgers, chicken sandwiches and loaded fries. It's open at 407 N. Columbia St., with doors unlocking Monday through Saturday at 11 am and late-night hours stretching to 1 am on Fridays and Saturdays.
Tempo Tiempo has joined the Northshore dining scene. Owner Efrain Bermudez also has other concepts in the area, including the Spanish fine-dining restaurant Valencia, the Latin eatery EmpaTaco, and Geaux Pizza & Wings, according to Visit The Northshore.
A Soft Start Before the Full Menu Launch
Tempo Tiempo's menu includes a range of signature dishes. Signature dishes now on the menu include the Jam Smash burger topped with piquillo jalapeño jam and garlic aioli, the El Jefe burger, crispy Avocado Rolls, and beignet bites served with dulce de leche, bourbon caramel, or chocolate sauce, the restaurant's Visit The Northshore listing notes.
Tempo Tiempo adds another downtown option for weekday diners. The late hours suggest a deliberate bid to capture both the dinner crowd and the after-hours bar scene downtown.
Filling a Familiar Address on Columbia Street
The address itself has history. In October 2025, Paco's Tacos, a regional Mexican street food concept, was preparing to open at 407 N. Columbia St. in a location planned as its first with a full sit-down bar, according to WhatNow. The planned opening would have added another local dining concept to North Columbia Street.
The location sits near the Tammany Trace trailhead.
Part of a Shifting Downtown Dining Scene
Tempo Tiempo's arrival lands amid a broader shakeup in downtown Covington's restaurant lineup this year. Covington's Solazzo family closed the longtime gastropub The Greyhound to refocus on their other restaurant, Del Porto, even as new arrivals like French bistro Feliciana have opened their doors. The historic district continues to see its commercial spaces adapt as diner preferences shift.
That churn reflects a changing dining scene across the region. St. Tammany Parish's restaurants add to the area's range of dining options.
St. Tammany Parish's dining scene features a mix of regional cuisines. Tempo Tiempo joins other recent Latin-inspired openings in that push, including Casa Tequila's seafood-heavy Mexican menu on North Collins Boulevard, which Hoodline covered earlier this month after it was spotlighted by Visit The Northshore.
