Jace Yarbrough, a constitutional attorney and Air Force Reserve officer, will face Richardson City Councilmember Dan Barrios, a Democrat, for Texas's 32nd Congressional District seat this November. Yarbrough became the Republican nominee after rival Ryan Binkley dropped out of the GOP primary runoff and threw his support behind him, while Barrios secured the Democratic nomination after defeating Anthony Bridges in the primary. The general election is scheduled for November 3, 2026.

The matchup, as reported by the Herald-Banner, centers on sharply different approaches to federal spending, immigration and the economy. Yarbrough is campaigning on border security, constitutional rights and spending cuts, while Barrios is focused on affordability, which he has called the district's biggest challenge, pointing to housing, health care, education and the cost of raising children as top concerns.

Texas lawmakers have proposed new congressional maps.

How Yarbrough Won the GOP Nod

Yarbrough's path to the nomination ran through a crowded Republican primary field of nine candidates, the Times reported, in which he fell just short of the majority needed to win outright. The Texas Tribune notes Binkley finished second with 22 percent of the vote to Yarbrough's 49 percent before withdrawing ahead of a runoff and endorsing him outright. Yarbrough also picked up endorsements from former President Donald Trump, House Speaker Mike Johnson and several hardline members of the Texas congressional delegation, cementing his standing as the party's pick.

He and his wife, Elizabeth, founded Saint Francis Academy, a classical Christian school, and he currently serves as an officer in the Air Force Reserve.

Barrios's Campaign

He was elected in May 2023 to represent Richardson City Council Place 3, according to the City of Richardson, and served until he announced his resignation in July to focus full-time on his congressional bid, a move Community Impact reported was aimed at devoting his time to the campaign.

On his campaign site, Barrios highlights insurance premiums, prescription costs and keeping rural hospitals open as health care concerns.

Debt and Immigration

Both candidates agree the federal government faces a debt problem, but they differ on the fix. Yarbrough has said the government should cut wasteful spending and keep taxes low.

Yarbrough has discussed immigration and border enforcement.

Early Voting Dates

D Magazine reports early voting begins October 19 and runs through October 30. Voters should confirm the schedule with their local election authority before heading to the polls ahead of the November 3 general election.
