A Crotona Park man has been arrested and charged with murder nearly a year after a deadly stabbing near Times Square left a 23-year-old Rhode Island man dead, police say. Alton Henry was taken into custody Monday, becoming the third person charged in the killing of Daevon Silva, who died at Bellevue Hospital after being attacked early on Nov. 24, 2025.
Henry's arrest, first reported by News 12 New York, comes about eleven months after police responded to an assault at the intersection of West 49th Street and Seventh Avenue, where they found Silva with multiple stab wounds. Bronx men Paul Ohore and Alagie Jatta were arrested in December 2025 and had already been charged with murder in connection with the case, according to amNY. Detectives took Ohore, 32, and Jatta, 29, into custody in the Bronx on Dec. 16, 2025, the outlet reported, and at that time a third attacker remained at large.
Silva, who lived in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, was rushed to Bellevue Hospital after the attack, where he later died, according to the New York Daily News. Accounts of his injuries differ: amNY reported that Silva was beaten and stabbed multiple times in the back and right thigh during the confrontation, while the Daily News reported he was stabbed once in the back and once in the right thigh. The exact number of wounds has not been independently resolved.
How the Attack Unfolded
The confrontation took place just after 1 a.m. on West 49th Street and Seventh Avenue, according to amNY's account of the incident. Authorities allege that Jatta struck Silva with a bat while Ohore stabbed him, the outlet reported, attributing the allegation to investigators. The suspects were last seen fleeing downtown on Seventh Avenue before splitting up, the Daily News reported at the time.
Police have said they believe the killing may have been retaliatory, with amNY reporting the dispute could have stemmed from a disagreement over a vehicle. That theory of the case has not been resolved by any further public account, and the circumstances that led to the deadly encounter remain under scrutiny.
Manhattan Homicides and Shootings Decline
The killing happened amid declines in Manhattan homicides and shootings. Manhattan recorded 22 homicides and 39 shooting incidents through June 29, 2025, with homicides down 52% and shootings down 70% compared with the same period in 2021, according to the Manhattan District Attorney's Office. Silva's death occurred near Times Square.
With Henry now charged alongside Ohore and Jatta, all three men face murder charges in connection with Silva's death.
