Flames tore through an Allston apartment building early Saturday morning, sending a 40-year-old adult and a 4-year-old child to the hospital and displacing dozens of residents from their homes. Boston firefighters rescued six people from the building before knocking down the three-alarm blaze.
The fire broke out at the apartment building at 117 Brainerd Road, according to WCVB, which reported that firefighters arrived to find flames shooting from some of the building's first-floor windows. Crews managed to pull six people to safety before bringing the fire under control.
Two Rushed to the Hospital
A 40-year-old adult and a 4-year-old child were rushed to an area hospital after being injured in the fire, the station reported. The extent of their injuries remains unknown, per the same report.
The scale of the displacement became clear at the scene, where a fire deputy said at least 38 residents were left without a place to stay. No details have been released about where those displaced residents are being housed, and the cause of the fire has not been disclosed.
A Pattern of Major Fires in Greater Boston
The Allston blaze comes three days after a five-alarm fire tore through a mixed-use building at 1135 Broadway in Somerville's Teele Square, an incident that reportedly displaced 43 residents and drew dozens of firefighters from surrounding communities, according to The Boston Globe. That fire, like Saturday's in Allston, underscored how quickly a multi-alarm blaze in a densely packed residential building can upend dozens of lives at once.
WCVB has indicated it will continue to update its report as more details become available, including any further word on the condition of the two people hospitalized and the circumstances that led to the fire.
