Three people were wounded in a stabbing Friday afternoon in Orange Mound, after Memphis police responding to a wounding call on Hamilton Street discovered a stabbed man at the scene and then learned two more victims had arrived at a hospital. No suspect has been identified, and investigators have not said what weapon was used in the assault.
According to Action News 5, Memphis police officers began investigating at 3:15 p.m. after responding to the call in the 1500 block of Hamilton Street, just south of Deadrick Avenue. Officers found a male victim there with a non-life-threatening stab wound, and he was taken by ambulance for treatment. The Memphis Police Department reported that two additional victims arrived at a local hospital, and their conditions are currently unknown. Police have not released any suspect information.
Cedar News also reported the stabbing, citing preliminary scanner information.
Other Reported Violence in Orange Mound
A second suspect had been arrested in connection with a May robbery and deadly shooting, according to the celebritystylistlulu_Verified Instagram post.
Those reports underscore concerns about violence in Orange Mound.
Other reported violence in Orange Mound includes a May shooting and the 2024 mass shooting at Orange Mound Park near Carnes Avenue and Grand Street.
Citywide Numbers Don't Match the Street-Level Reality
The violence on Hamilton Street stands in tension with Memphis’s broader crime trends. A second-quarter 2026 performance report from the Memphis Police Department found that major violent crime across the city dropped significantly this year, with aggravated assaults falling 30% and homicides declining 60% compared to the same period in 2025 — a trend the department attributes to its “Sustain the Gains” enforcement strategy and federal partnerships.
A ranking based on 2025 FBI data placed Memphis highest among the 50 largest U.S. cities for total crime, even as crime fell nationally between 2024 and 2025.
A Neighborhood Built on Promise, Still Seeking Answers
Orange Mound carries a significant place in American history. The Advisory Council on Historic Preservation notes it was founded in 1890 as the nation’s first planned subdivision developed specifically for African Americans. Lots sold for less than $100. The neighborhood developed on the former Deaderick Plantation.
That layered history sits alongside ongoing frustration over unresolved violence. Hoodline reported in April that the unsanctioned April 2024 block party mass shooting at Orange Mound Park, which left two people dead and several injured, remained unsolved two years later, with federal and local contributions pushing the reward total toward $25,000.
The stabbing is a fresh reminder that violent crime remains a concern in Orange Mound.
