Tom Jones postponed his concert at the Greek Theatre Monday evening and a Tuesday show in San Diego after coming down with the flu, scrapping two stops on his Come Gather Round Tour just hours before showtime. The 86-year-old Welsh singer said doctors advised him to cancel both performances, and fans holding tickets to the original dates won't need to buy new ones.
According to mynewsla.com, Jones announced the postponements on Instagram, apologizing for any inconvenience and saying he looked forward to seeing audiences soon. In his message, he explained what led to the sudden health scare: “I've had a great time these last few weeks, completing 20 shows and singing for wonderful audiences across the USA, but unexpectedly I've been hit with a bad case of the flu,” he wrote, a quote carried by ktla.com. Doctors advised the 86-year-old to cancel Monday night's show at the Greek and Tuesday's show in San Diego, per the same station's reporting.
New Dates Set for Both Cities
The Greek Theatre concert in Los Angeles has been rescheduled for Wednesday, November 4th, according to KTLA's report. The San Diego concert will now take place at The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park on November 3, as reported by The Independent. The Rady Shell's own event listing confirms the San Diego date shifted from Tuesday, 10/27 to Tuesday, 11/3 due to illness, and notes the show is presented by Live Nation Presents, with the San Diego Symphony Orchestra not appearing on this particular concert.
Tickets for the original shows will be honored on the rescheduled dates, mynewsla.com's report states. Fans who cannot attend may contact their original point of purchase for a refund, the outlet adds.
A Shuffled Finale for the Come Gather Round Tour
Jones is on his Come Gather Round Tour, which was originally announced as a 25-date run kicking off in mid-September and hitting casinos and theaters through November, according to Consequence, which at the time described him as 85 years old — a detail that conflicts with more recent reporting from The Independent and KTLA putting him at 86. That same Consequence report had the tour's final show slated for November 1st in San Francisco. With the Los Angeles postponement now pushing that concert to November 4, mynewsla.com reports the rescheduled Greek Theatre show will instead become the tour's true closing date.
