Downtown Los Angeles is waking up to a wet, unsettled Thursday, with temperatures around 60 degrees and showers or thunderstorms expected through the day. The forecast calls for mostly cloudy skies, a high near 69, and a 90% chance of rain, making this a decidedly umbrella-over-sunglasses kind of morning.
Storms Could Disrupt The Thursday Commute
Showers and thunderstorms are expected from the morning into the afternoon. The storm marks the arrival of the midweek system flagged in an earlier Hoodline forecast, but the latest update brings a sharper focus on thunderstorm and flooding risks.
The National Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard office says storms across the region could produce brief heavy downpours, gusty winds, lightning and localized flooding. Forecasters also warn of a small chance for a brief, weak tornado in Los Angeles and Ventura counties, according to the National Weather Service.
Flooding Risk Is Localized But Serious
Downtown Los Angeles is forecast to receive between a tenth and a quarter-inch of rain Thursday, though heavier bursts could quickly overwhelm clogged drains or low-lying streets. Flood watches remain in effect for parts of Los Angeles County through Thursday afternoon, with added concern near recent burn scars where debris flows are possible.
Clear Skies Return Friday
Showers and thunderstorms are expected to continue into Thursday. Friday turns sunny and warmer with a high near 73, followed by dry, warmer conditions over the weekend as a weak offshore flow develops.
