A Pattern Detective Mosley Knows Well
This is not the first time Detective Mosley has turned to the public for leads on a retail crime case. In June, the department released surveillance photos seeking help identifying two suspects accused of stealing $4,000 in merchandise from a local department store before fleeing in a getaway vehicle. Mosley is a Retail Emphasis Detective with the department.
Washington's Vehicle Pursuit Law
Washington's Initiative 2113, which took effect statewide in June 2024, restored police authority to initiate vehicle pursuits based on reasonable suspicion that an occupant committed a crime, according to KING 5 News.
Part of a Larger, Costly Problem
Retail crime has become an expensive and persistent headache across Washington. Retail theft losses in Washington have been close to $3 billion per year, with $603 million in lost tax revenue. Washington ranks number one for organized retail crime.
Tukwila's commercial corridors, anchored by major retail hubs like Westfield Southcenter, continue to see frequent police activity tied to theft calls. A shoplifting report at Southcenter led to a traffic stop and three arrests, a case Hoodline covered previously. For now, the man behind this latest robbery remains unidentified, and police are counting on the public to change that.
