A shooting on Lake Circle Drive in Tupelo left one person with serious injuries Sunday night, and police say a person of interest is now in custody as detectives work to piece together what happened. Officers responded to reports of shots fired near the street at approximately 10:30 p.m. on October 25, and by the time they arrived, the injured victim had already been rushed to the hospital.

According to Tippah News, the shooting happened in the 2000 block of Lake Circle Drive and left a person with serious injuries. The outlet reported that the individual had sustained a gunshot wound and had already been transported to North Mississippi Medical Center for treatment before officers reached the scene. Police told the outlet that officers located evidence of a shooting once they arrived and secured the area so detectives could continue the investigation.

Not every detail has lined up cleanly across local coverage. While Tippah News reported the victim suffered serious injuries, WTVA reported that the shooting victim received treatment at the hospital but that the person's condition was unknown. Neither outlet has identified the victim or the person of interest taken into custody.

Investigators Say Case Remains Active

The Tupelo Police Department's Criminal Investigation Division is actively investigating the incident, per the department's statement relayed by Tippah News. A person of interest is in custody in connection with the shooting, though police have not released further detail on that individual's identity or any charges. The department shared the initial details of the shooting investigation in a post on Tupelo Police Department's Facebook page.

Police say additional information may be released as the investigation progresses, but for now the full sequence of events, any possible motive, and the extent of the victim's injuries remain unclear. The department has not said whether a weapon has been recovered or what led up to the shots being fired near Lake Circle Drive.

Part of a String of Tupelo Shootings This Year

Sunday's incident is the latest in a string of shootings that have drawn police response across Tupelo throughout 2026. Back in March, the Tupelo Police Department was investigating two unrelated shootings that happened two days apart and fewer than two miles from each other, according to the Daily Journal, with a single person shot and injured in each case in central Tupelo.

In April, one adult was shot in the 400 block of North Green Street and transported to North Mississippi Medical Center with what police described as apparent non-life-threatening injuries, Tippah News reported at the time. And in late June, a male juvenile was found suffering from a gunshot wound in Tupelo and was later reported in stable condition, according to WCBI. Whether Sunday's shooting connects to any pattern remains unestablished, and police have not characterized it as part of a broader trend.

For now, the Tupelo Police Department's Criminal Investigation Division continues to work the Lake Circle Drive case, with officials signaling that updates could come as the investigation develops.
