A woman and a man were critically injured in a Thursday evening shooting in North Memphis. The woman reached Fire Station 19 on Chelsea Avenue for help, while the man went to a hospital in a private vehicle, according to WREG.
Memphis police responded to the fire station, at 2248 Chelsea Avenue, shortly after 6 p.m. Thursday. Investigators identified the shooting scene as the 3100 block of Chelsea Avenue, police said. Two men left that scene in a red Honda sedan. No arrests had been reported, WREG reported.
Separate cases offer limited context
A separate case shows that a fatal shooting also occurred on Chelsea Avenue in September 2023. WREG reported that Steffon Boatwright was sentenced to 26 years after pleading guilty to second-degree murder in the killing of DeMarcus Wilbourn. That homicide was a different case; its location on the same street does not establish a connection to Thursday’s shooting.
Citywide figures provide broader, but not block-specific, context. The Memphis Police Department reported a 27% decrease in overall Part I crimes in 2025. That aggregate figure does not establish a trend on Chelsea Avenue or explain this shooting.
A violence-intervention program, with case eligibility unknown
Regional One Health says its Rx for Change program, launched in August 2013, aims to reduce retaliation, criminal involvement and reinjury among youth injured by violence. A grant announcement from Congressman Steve Cohen’s office describes its approach as including hospital safety planning, coordination of services at discharge and case management during recovery. It has not been reported whether either person injured Thursday received these services or qualifies for the program.
