A 26-year-old Vancouver man was booked into the Skamania County Jail in 2022 after deputies said a UPS driver walked into a home near Washougal while the family was asleep inside, then tried the same thing at a second house down the road. The suspect was booked on charges of residential burglary, criminal trespassing and third-degree theft.

The case broke open after a homeowner off Mabee Mines Road, northeast of Washougal, reported that a UPS driver had entered their home while they were sleeping, according to KIRO 7. The homeowner's daughter confronted the man, who then left behind a package and took off, the station reported.

Second Home Targeted on Wantland Road

A separate homeowner on Wantland Road told deputies that a UPS driver also tried to get into their home but could not, per the same KIRO 7 account. It is not clear from available reporting whether the two incidents happened on the same date or were connected as part of a single investigation.

The break-in attempt at the Mabee Mines Road home was caught on surveillance video, the outlet's report noted. Deputies ultimately turned to the delivery company itself for help closing in on him.

UPS Security Helped Track Down the Suspect

According to KIRO 7, whose account was based on a sheriff’s office release, deputies credited UPS's security office and its Portland depot with helping identify and locate the suspect. Information such as the exact arrest date, bail status and case disposition has not been made public.

The arrest was reported in July 2022, years before the Skamania County Sheriff's Office separately asked the public for help identifying a suspect in the Home Valley incident in October 2026. According to KATU, surveillance photos from October 11, 2026, showed a masked individual lurking outside a home in the Home Valley area with a flashlight, allegedly attempting to burglarize the property. The Home Valley report describes a separate incident involving a masked individual.

Sheriff's Office Still Seeking Tips on Masked Suspect

The Skamania County Sheriff's Office is asking anyone with information about the Home Valley incident to call 509-427-9490 and reference case number 26-07266, per KATU's reporting. That investigation remains open as deputies work to identify the masked individual seen in the surveillance photos.
