Walmart is gearing up to plant another Neighborhood Market in Osceola County, and this one comes with some heft. The retailer has filed a permit for a 53,056-square-foot store in the Poinciana area, complete with a fuel station and a pharmacy.

The filing was reported Tuesday by the Orlando Business Journal, which describes the market as part of several new Walmart stores planned across the state. Details on a street address, opening date, construction schedule or investment amount were not part of the reporting, so those questions remain open for now.

Poinciana Has Been on Walmart's Radar for Months

This is not the first time Walmart's name has surfaced alongside Poinciana. Back in May, Growthspotter reported that the company had plans for a Neighborhood Market at Westview in Poinciana.

That same report noted Walmart was in permitting for another Neighborhood Market nearby, on U.S. 192 at Everest Place. Plans filed in St. Cloud, meanwhile, call for a much larger 187,400-square-foot big-box anchor with a drive-thru pharmacy, a 20-pump fueling station and a convenience store.

How the Size Stacks Up Around Central Florida

At 53,056 square feet, the Osceola County market would run larger than several comparable Walmart projects in the region. In Minneola, Growthspotter reports Walmart is planning a 48,000-square-foot Neighborhood Market inside a proposed 21-acre shopping center along U.S. Highway 27. The company paid $6.4 million for the 6-acre anchor lot, and the plans also include an attached 3,000-square-foot liquor store.

Farther north, Villages-News.com reports that a Neighborhood Market planned for The Villages would fill a 47,982-square-foot building on a 9.26-acre parcel, with a fuel station featuring 20 gas pumps. That project has drawn controversy locally.

Part of a Bigger Florida Push

Walmart has been spending big in the Sunshine State. According to the Orlando Business Journal, the retail giant has invested more than $1.5 billion in Florida stores over the past five years, with Neighborhood Markets also coming to Ocoee and The Villages.

Existing stores are getting attention too. Progressive Grocer reports that 58 Florida locations are slated for remodels in 2026, and it describes the newly opened Crestview Neighborhood Market, a 48,585-square-foot store expected to bring 166 jobs, as the seventh of its kind in Florida.

For Poinciana shoppers, the permit filing is an early step rather than a finish line. The underlying Osceola County permit documents were not part of the available reporting, and no amenities beyond the fuel station and pharmacy have been confirmed.
