New York City is waking up to a cloudy, mid-50s Monday, but the forecast is about to turn brighter — and noticeably breezier. Skies should clear into a mostly sunny afternoon near 72 degrees, while the NWS forecast calls for northwest winds with gusts up to 30 knots, about 35 mph.
Sunshine Arrives With A Serious Breeze
The National Weather Service says high pressure will build into the area Monday, with dry weather thereafter, followed by a cooler air mass tonight and Tuesday. By evening, temperatures should slip toward 50 as northwest winds continue, with gusts diminishing overnight.
For anyone headed to the waterfront, the breeze is more than a hair-flattener: a Small Craft Advisory covers New York Harbor from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, while several nearby waters remain under advisories into Tuesday. On land, the main impact is a blustery afternoon and a cooler-than-recent-feeling night.
Tuesday Is Sunny, But Cooler
Tuesday should be bright and dry, with a high near 65 and a northwest wind around 12 mph. Tuesday night stays clear with a low near 50 in the city; the better chance for patchy frost is in rural and interior suburbs, where temperatures may fall into the 30s.
The latest outlook is a sharper wind-and-temperature update to Sunday's Hoodline forecast, which had already pointed to a sunnier Monday. After Tuesday, temperatures moderate: highs reach about 68 Wednesday, 73 Thursday and 72 Friday, with dry conditions later in the week.
The week's main planning note is simple: bring a jacket for early mornings, and be ready for a windy Monday afternoon.
