Atlanta police officers found a woman unresponsive inside 1065 Peachtree Street NE on Wednesday after responding to a person-down call, and she was pronounced dead at the scene. Her identity has not been released, and police have not said whether the death is considered suspicious.
The call came in at one of Midtown's most prominent addresses, according to Atlanta News First, which first reported that officers were dispatched to the building Wednesday and discovered the woman before she was pronounced dead on scene. The outlet has not specified where inside the building she was found.
A Tower That Mixes Hotel Guests and Condo Owners
The address sits inside a 26-story high-rise that blends two very different kinds of residents. The building houses the 414-room Loews Atlanta Hotel and 52 private luxury condominiums known as 1065 Midtown, according to Loews Hotels. The building's mix of hotel rooms and private condominiums leaves open whether the woman was found in a guest room, a private residence, or a common area, a question authorities have not yet answered.
Ashland is located at the property.
Zone 5 and the Medical Examiner's Role
The property falls within Atlanta Police Department Zone 5, the patrol district covering the city's Downtown and Midtown commercial corridors, high-rise residential towers, and major cultural venues, per the Atlanta Police Department.
Georgia law requires that any death occurring without medical attendance, or under sudden or suspicious circumstances, be reported to the county medical examiner, under the Georgia Death Investigation Act, O.C.G.A. § 45-16-24, according to Justia Law. Once emergency responders pronounce someone dead at a scene in Fulton County, the medical examiner's office takes custody of the body to conduct postmortem toxicology and physical examinations, per Fulton County Government. The Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office aims to complete official autopsy reports within 90 days, though full findings often take six to eight weeks, the same agency notes — meaning a formal determination of cause and manner of death in this case is likely still weeks away.
Part of a String of Recent Midtown Incidents
Wednesday's death adds to a run of public-safety episodes that have put Zone 5 under scrutiny in recent weeks. In late September, a dispute among three women on Spring Street escalated into gunfire that led to two arrests. Earlier this month, two men stabbed each other during a dispute over a cellphone near the Midtown MARTA station, leaving both hospitalized.
Midtown high-rises have also drawn scrutiny in the courts this year. In April, Fulton County Superior Court began jury selection in the trial of a woman charged in a 2022 shooting spree that left two men dead inside a different Peachtree Street commercial and residential building. That case, still working its way through the legal system, underscores the unique challenges high-density towers like 1065 Peachtree Street can pose for emergency responders when a death occurs without an immediate explanation.
No further details have been released about Wednesday's death, including the woman's identity or whether investigators suspect foul play. Hoodline will update this story as Atlanta police and the Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office release additional information.
