Michelle Pitts says she was swept beneath a vehicle in a parking lot at Falcon Stadium after Bruno Mars's September 27 concert, suffering whiplash, torn ligaments, a pulled pelvis, hairline rib fractures, and road rash across her body. More than a week later, she says she still cannot get a straight answer about what happened to the driver who hit her.
New dash cam video obtained by a viewer shows the moment Pitts was struck in the parking lot as concertgoers streamed out of the United States Air Force Academy's Falcon Stadium, according to KRDO. The vehicle also narrowly missed hitting Pitts's daughter and her daughter's friend as it moved through the lot, the station reported. Witnesses leaving the show, including children, were shaken by what they saw.
Britney Treadaway, who witnessed the crash along with her son, told the station her son clearly saw the woman stuck under the SUV. Pitts has described being pinned beneath the vehicle as the scariest thing she has ever experienced, per the same report.
After a Stadium Concert
A local account on Reddit's r/ColoradoSprings described a two-hour exit from Falcon Stadium on September 26, citing traffic delays and lane problems. Bruno Mars played a concert at Falcon Stadium on September 27.
Bounced Between Agencies for Over a Week
Pitts has spent more than a week since the incident trying to get answers, reaching out to multiple law enforcement agencies as well as the Air Force Academy itself. The Colorado Springs Police Department referred her to the El Paso County Sheriff's Office, which in turn referred her to USAFA — because, as CSPD told the outlet, incidents on Air Force Academy grounds fall under United States Air Force Security Forces jurisdiction rather than municipal police authority.
Pitts spoke with someone at USAFA on September 30, but the representative told her they could not find an incident report and said they would keep looking. She says she still has not heard back.
Medical Services Provider Says It Can Help
Legacy EMS provided dedicated on-site ambulance and medical services for the concert, and the medical-services provider confirmed it responded to the parking lot incident. Legacy EMS has said it is willing and able to assist Pitts and law enforcement agencies in any investigation, and Pitts says she is now working to contact Legacy EMS directly.
