A woman showed up at Shelby County Fire Station 67 just after 8:30 p.m. Sunday night with gunshot injuries, having driven herself there in a personal vehicle after being shot in the parking lot of a nearby convenience store. The suspect fled the scene and remained at large as of Monday, according to deputies.
Paramedics treated the woman at the fire station before transporting her to Regional One Health, where she was listed in non-critical condition, according to Action News 5. Detectives with the Shelby County Sheriff's Office determined she had been shot in the parking lot of the Penny Pantry store, located on Breckenwood Drive near North Circle Road in Northaven. Deputies said the suspect was not in custody as the investigation continued.
A Store With a Troubled History
This is not the first time gunfire has erupted in or around the Penny Pantry on Breckenwood Drive. On October 19, 2023, deputies responded to a shooting with injuries at the same convenience store in the 4000 block of Breckenwood Drive, the station's report notes. That victim was found unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds to the torso and was declared dead by paramedics at 6:45 p.m.
Nearly two years earlier, on February 8, 2022, a shooting occurred at the Penny Pantry Store in the 4900 block of Breckenwood Drive, according to the Shelby County District Attorney. In that case, detectives said Cameron Westbrook followed Andre Harwell into and back out of the store, and after a brief argument, pulled a handgun and shot him multiple times. A grand jury later indicted Westbrook on first-degree murder charges, and he was held without bond in the Shelby County Jail following the indictment.
Another Northaven Shooting Led to an Arrest
Sunday's shooting is also not the only recent gunfire reported in the Northaven area. In a separate incident, a man was shot while driving near Brandywine Boulevard and Braden Drive around 2:30 p.m. on May 29, per the sheriff's office. That victim also drove himself to a Shelby County fire station for help, and was initially listed in critical condition before being upgraded to non-critical condition at Regional One.
Deputies later identified Joshua Taylor, 25, as a suspect and issued an arrest warrant, arresting him on July 21 in the 5200 block of Broken Oak Drive in Northaven, according to the same outlet's coverage. Taylor was charged with aggravated assault, and his bond was set at $100,000.
No arrest has been announced in Sunday's shooting, and the Shelby County Sheriff's Office has not released a suspect description or stated a motive. The investigation remains active.
