A woman was shot Thursday night on Plank Drive in Louisville's Okolona neighborhood, and police say she was rushed to the hospital with injuries believed to be non-life-threatening. Louisville Metro Police officers were called to the 5300 block of Plank Drive around 7:43 p.m. after reports of a shooting, arriving to find an adult woman suffering from a gunshot wound.
Officers provided aid at the scene until emergency medical services arrived, according to WHAS11. The woman was then taken to UofL Hospital, where police believe her wounds are not life-threatening.
Domestic Violence Unit Takes Over Case
Louisville Metro Police said all parties involved in the Plank Drive shooting had been accounted for, according to the station's report. The case has since been handed to the LMPD Domestic Violence Unit, which is now leading the investigation into what happened on the quiet residential block.
No further details have been released about what led to the shooting, the relationship between those involved, or whether any arrests have been made. The report remains a developing story that is expected to be updated as more information becomes available.
Part of a Pattern of Shootings Around Jefferson County
The Plank Drive shooting adds to a string of recent gun violence incidents reported across the Louisville area. Earlier this year, WAVE3 reported that a woman was injured in a separate shooting in southern Jefferson County. Other recent cases covered locally have included one in which a woman was later arrested in connection with a Louisville shooting that left a person injured, according to a separate WHAS11 report, while WDRB reported on a man facing an assault charge after another Louisville shooting left a woman injured.
As of now, no details have emerged about who may have fired the shot on Plank Drive or what prompted the attack. Louisville Metro Police have not released additional information beyond confirming the woman's hospitalization and the involvement of the Domestic Violence Unit.
