A rock show that used to call Crowbar home is setting up a few blocks east this Saturday, with Ybor Horror V taking over the loading dock at Coppertail Brewing. The October 24 lineup features Flagman, Discord Theory, Sky Navy, Persephone's Choice, Cozy in the Black, and He Kindly, with tickets starting at $15 and a costume contest offering cash, band merch, and a year of free entry to shows from promoter FMAM.
The show is a Halloween-season bill at Coppertail Brewing's loading dock. As Creative Loafing Tampa reports, this is the first Ybor Horror since Crowbar closed, with the event moving just a few blocks east to the brewery's loading dock. Genre-jumping anchor band Discord Theory, which formed in Tampa in 2017 and released its debut album “Eight Ways From Dire Straits” in 2023 under producer Lee Dyess, had played Crowbar as recently as December 13, 2025, per the outlet's reporting.
Crowbar's Closure Left a Hole in Ybor's Music Scene
Crowbar, a 300-capacity independent venue in Ybor City, permanently closed on July 31, 2026, after two decades in the historic district, according to WTSP-TV. Crowbar co-owner Tom DeGeorge had testified before Congress in May 2026 on behalf of the National Independent Venue Association against Live Nation's industry dominance, pointing to rising rents, parking costs, and ticket market monopolies as forces squeezing independent venues, WUSF reported. That same outlet detailed how those pressures shaped the climate that led to Crowbar's shutdown.
Hoodline has tracked the DIY response to that closure, including warehouse shows curated by Josephine “Cozy” Selbeau, who fronts Tampa post-punk act Cozy in the Black. The band, which joins Saturday's lineup, has a sound Selbeau describes as “Afro-Futurist Witch Doctor Punk,” and her local curation work has become part of the broader effort to keep Tampa Bay's independent scene alive outside shuttered traditional rooms.
A Corporate Megavenue Looms Over Ybor City
While indie promoters scramble for new spaces, Live Nation and developer Kettler announced plans in April 2026 to build a 4,300-capacity venue in Ybor City's Gasworx district, a proposal Live Nation said could generate $80 million in annual economic impact, according to the Live Nation Newsroom. WTSP reported that an online petition opposing corporate expansion in the historic neighborhood had close to 10,000 signatures. Tampa's Barrio Latino Commission delayed approval of that project in August 2026 over incomplete documentation regarding plans to relocate a historic 1920s house and a protected grand live oak tree from North 15th Street, the Tampa Bay Times reported.
Against that backdrop, Coppertail Brewing's willingness to host touring and local acts has taken on added significance for the neighborhood's independent circuit. Hoodline previously covered the brewery's growing role as a live-music host when it welcomed chiptune act Anamanaguchi in September.
Orlando Headliner Brings a Fest-Ready Lineup to Tampa
Headlining out-of-towners Flagman is an Orlando metal group. The band's stop in Tampa is part of a Florida leg before the group heads into the Midwest and eastern seaboard, Creative Loafing Tampa notes.
Tickets for Saturday's show at Coppertail Brewing start at $15, with the costume contest adding extra incentive for attendees to dress up for the Halloween-season bill. The concert photograph accompanying the original announcement was credited to Dave Decker, and the article detailing the lineup appeared in Creative Loafing Tampa's October 15-21, 2026 issue, written by Ray Roa.
