A 4-year-old boy riding a school bus near Linden Street in Yonkers ended up with cuts to his head and above his eye Monday afternoon after someone allegedly hurled a glass liquor bottle that shattered his window. Police arrested 25-year-old Jefferson Heras of the Bronx in connection with the incident, which happened around 4 p.m.
According to News12, police say Heras threw the glass object near Linden Street, and it struck and shattered the bus window where the child was sitting. The boy sustained lacerations to his head and above his eye, the station reports, and was taken to a nearby hospital where he was listed in stable condition.
Charges Filed Against Bronx Man
Police charged Heras with assault and multiple counts of child endangerment, per the same report. New York Penal Law classifies assault in the third degree as causing physical injury to another person, whether intentionally or recklessly, according to the New York State Senate. Separately, state law addresses endangering the welfare of a child under a distinct statute, according to the New York State Senate, though the specific elements applied in this case have not been detailed publicly.
Few Details Released So Far
Heras was arrested Monday afternoon, and as of Tuesday morning, authorities had not released any additional details about the case, the station notes. It remains unclear what led to the bottle being thrown or whether other children on the bus were affected by the shattered glass.
