Maria Howard, 61, faces three felony counts after allegedly pointing what appeared to be a gun at a family in a Yukon school parking lot, KFOR reported. The charges listed are assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, feloniously pointing a firearm, and carrying a firearm while under the influence. They are allegations, not findings of guilt.
The incident occurred on September 19 at Redstone Intermediate School, where Jacon and Jennifer Higdon were practicing driving and parking with their son, according to KFOR. Police said an argument preceded the alleged pointing of the weapon. The Higdons told officers Howard yelled and swore at them from the porch of a home facing the parking lot. Police later identified the object as a BB gun or air gun and alleged Howard was under the influence of alcohol.
A separate Oklahoma City case
A 2018 Oklahoma City incident offers a limited comparison: KFOR reported that a man was arrested after allegedly shooting a BB gun at a police officer responding to a burglary call. That case involved an officer and a separate call for service, unlike the reported Yukon dispute involving a family at a school parking lot. The two incidents are examples, not evidence of a wider trend, and the prior case does not establish what happened in Howard’s case.
