Zanotto’s Naglee Avenue market opened in 1976, but the company’s own history places it after smaller stores. That distinction adds context to Saturday’s 50th-anniversary celebration: the milestone marks five decades since the Rose Garden location was established, not necessarily the family’s first step in grocery retail. Zanotto’s account of its history says those earlier stores preceded the Naglee Avenue market.
The celebration is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the market at 1970 Naglee Ave. in San Jose’s Rose Garden area. The Mercury News reported that the event will include samples, music, children’s activities and 50 vendors, along with a DJ and face painting.
For shoppers, the reported offers include 50 items at half price for Saturday only. The Mercury News also reported that all three locations—Rose Garden, Willow Glen and Sunnyvale—will offer 20% off meat-department purchases that day.
A later milestone in Sunnyvale
The chain’s growth has included locations beyond its Rose Garden market. In 2015, the Chico Enterprise-Record reported that Zanotto’s had set an April 12 grand-opening date for its Sunnyvale location at 1356 S. Mary St. That report documents a planned opening date; it does not establish the timing or history of the Willow Glen location.
Saturday’s gathering returns attention to the Naglee Avenue store and the company’s 1976 milestone, while the sale extends across the three locations named in the event report.
