For runners preparing for the Atlanta Marathon weekend, the dates and general location are confirmed, but the route details needed to plan training runs or spectator visits are not yet public. Atlanta Track Club has set the races for March 6-7, 2027, and says the marathon will use a redesigned course through downtown Atlanta.
What runners can plan now
RunDida reports that Atlanta Track Club has confirmed the weekend dates and a Downtown Atlanta location, while its message says, “New Date. New Course. New Feel. More information coming soon!” No route map, mile-by-mile breakdown or elevation profile has been made public, according to the outlet.
The event schedule is set: the 5K and youth events are scheduled for Saturday, March 6, 2027, and the full marathon and half marathon for Sunday, March 7, RunDida reports. That follows the weekend’s traditional format, but does not offer clues about the new route.
Treat old course descriptions as historical
Older street and landmark descriptions should not be taken as a preview of the 2027 course. RunDida cautions that information still circulating online may describe the retired route, so runners and spectators should wait for the new map before relying on it for route or viewing plans.
For example, a Half Marathon Guide page for the Publix Atlanta Marathon Weekend describes a route passing the Georgia State Capitol, winding through Inman Park and Virginia-Highland, following the BeltLine corridor and cutting through Piedmont Park, according to Half Marathon Guide. Whether any of those landmarks will be on the 2027 course has not been established.
What past Atlanta races can tell runners
WSB-TV reported that the 2025 Publix Atlanta Marathon affected downtown streets including Northside Drive, Piedmont and MLK Jr. Drive, near the Downtown Connector, and urged people to plan ahead. Those were arrangements for the 2025 race; they do not establish what street closures or transportation guidance will apply in 2027. Atlanta Track Club’s 2019 announcement of a course for the separate U.S. Olympic Team Trials Marathon, held in Atlanta on February 29, 2020, is another example of a major race route in the city. It is historical context, not information about the still-unpublished 2027 Atlanta Marathon course.
The retired course’s figures are not a guide
The retired 2026 course had a USATF certificate listing a 302-meter starting elevation, a 304-meter finish, a 269-meter low point and a 327-meter high point, according to RunDida. Those measurements apply to the course being phased out, not the 2027 route.
RunDida notes that a USATF certificate becomes void when a course changes, so the 2027 course will need a new certification process before race day. Secret Atlanta says this is the race’s latest edition in seven years, a milestone for returning and first-time runners alike.
For now, runners and locals can rely on the weekend dates and downtown setting, but not on a particular route, mile list or elevation profile. Atlanta Track Club says more details are coming; until they are released, past course maps and closure plans should not be treated as 2027 guidance.
