Two women dove behind a parked car on C Street SE in Auburn just after midnight last Friday as gunfire erupted following an altercation, and within hours police had two suspects in custody — one of them a juvenile. Surveillance footage reviewed by investigators captured muzzle flashes coming from both the driver and passenger sides of a car as it fled the scene.
According to Auburn Examiner, officers responded at 12:01 a.m. on October 30 to the 1800 block of C Street SE after reports of gunfire. The two women told officers they had been riding in a vehicle with two men before an altercation broke out, the outlet reported. Police said one of the men threatened the women, pointed a firearm at them and opened fire; a second man also fired at the women, according to the report cited by KOMO.
Both women ran and took cover behind a parked car, per the same account. Surveillance video reviewed by Auburn police showed the women taking cover as gunshots rang out, and separately showed the suspects' car fleeing the area with muzzle flashes visible from both sides of the vehicle.
Shell Casings Trace a Path Toward 17th Street
Officers combing the scene found multiple shell casings scattered along C Street SE, extending toward 17th Street SE, the Auburn Examiner's report states. Auburn officers ultimately responded, detained both occupants of the suspect vehicle and placed them under arrest, the outlet noted.
One suspect was booked into King County Jail, while the juvenile was booked into King County Juvenile Detention, according to the same report. The Auburn Examiner's account does not specify whether either woman was injured or identify the specific offenses for which the suspects were booked, and the case remains under investigation, having been referred to Auburn police detectives for further follow-up.
Part of a Troubling Pattern
The incident adds to a string of gun violence cases that have rattled Auburn in recent years. In July 2024, KOMO reported that four of five victims — three juveniles and one adult — were shot and suffered non-life-threatening injuries in what police described as an ambush-style attack near a Metro bus stop. And in May of this year, KOMO reported that Auburn police were investigating a shooting that sent two people to the hospital.
Other Auburn shootings have had far deadlier outcomes. In July 2025, prosecutors charged a 22-year-old man with first-degree murder in connection with a May shooting death in the city, according to a report from KIRO 7 that detailed an ambush involving 52 shell casings. It remains unclear whether last Friday's shooting is connected to any of those earlier cases.
