Bakersfield police have identified 37-year-old Mauricio Trujillo as a suspect after a girl reported that a man approached her, walked alongside her, made unwanted contact and tried to kiss her near 34th Street. Investigators say the man got out of a white truck shortly before the encounter, and detectives are now asking anyone who may have information — or who believes they were targeted by the same man — to come forward.

According to police, the girl reported the encounter around 6:30 a.m. on Oct. 29 in the 400 block of 34th Street, as KGET 17 News reported. Investigators say the man approached the girl, walked alongside her and made unwanted physical contact before trying to kiss her. Police say Mauricio Trujillo was identified as the suspect in the case.

Detectives said they also learned of another incident involving the same man the morning before, on Oct. 28, though the circumstances and outcome of that earlier encounter have not been detailed publicly. Per the same account, surveillance video captured a man identified as Trujillo getting out of a white truck and approaching the girl; investigators later identified the vehicle as a white Chevrolet Silverado work truck, according to KBAK.

Booking Records Point to Serious Charges

Inmate booking records reviewed by the station listed Trujillo as held on $430,000 bail on suspicion of kidnapping, lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14, annoying or molesting a child, and stalking, the report noted. Those figures and allegations come from booking records cited in that reporting and have not been independently verified elsewhere. The station's report also said Trujillo was due in court Thursday, though no calendar date or case outcome was specified.

Investigators Appeal for Possible Additional Victims

The investigation remains ongoing, and detectives have not said whether they believe Trujillo may be connected to other encounters beyond the two already described. Anyone with information on the incident or who knows of other potential victims is asked to call Detective Jose Medrano at 661-326-3504 or the Bakersfield Police Department at 661-327-7111.
