A 40-year-old Bend man is in the Lane County Jail after Eugene police say he drove into town last Friday to meet someone he believed was a teen girl, only to find himself in the middle of a yearlong undercover sting. Police arrested Adrian Lopez at 5:13 p.m. on October 30 after he traveled to Eugene to meet who he thought was a child under 16.
According to the KPIC report, the Eugene Police Department said Lopez had spent more than a year inappropriately communicating with a detective he believed was a teenage girl. As reported by KEZI, police said the contact began in August 2025 and continued for more than a year before Lopez made the drive from Bend to Eugene.
Investigators said the exchanges escalated well beyond conversation. Police told the station Lopez sent “as many as 27” inappropriate photos at one time, and that he also asked to impregnate and marry the teen he believed he was messaging, per the same account.
Camping Plans Made, Then Abandoned
The case also included a plan that never came together. Police said Lopez arranged in August 2026 to go camping with the teen, then backed out of those arrangements, the outlet reported.
Months later, he followed through on an in-person meeting attempt. Police said Lopez was arrested after driving to Eugene specifically to meet someone he believed was under 16 years old, the station noted.
Charges and Custody Status
Lopez was booked into the Lane County Jail on charges of luring a minor and first-degree online sexual corruption of a child.
Oregon law addresses the exact scenario investigators describe. According to an excerpt from Oregon's statutes, it is not a defense to a charge of online sexual corruption of a child in the first or second degree that the person was actually communicating with a law enforcement officer, or someone working under an officer's direction, rather than an actual minor. The excerpt provided does not include the statute's full text.
No charging document, court docket, or attorney statement has been made available, and there is no confirmation yet of how the case will proceed beyond Lopez's current custody status as reported by police.
