Brevard Zoo is adding a new after-dark tradition to its holiday lineup this year. The Melbourne attraction will launch Holiday Lights, a nighttime walking experience featuring illuminated displays scattered throughout the grounds, on select evenings beginning Nov. 20 and running through Jan. 2.
The new nighttime event arrives alongside the return of Jolly Days, which wdbo.com describes as the zoo's annual daytime seasonal celebration. According to Brevard Zoo on Facebook, Holiday Lights will include over one million lights, though WFTV reports the display will feature nearly 1 million lights instead. Either way, it promises to be one of the largest seasonal light shows the zoo has mounted.
Scenes From the North Pole to an Enchanted Forest
The illuminated walk will transport visitors through a series of themed scenes, including the North Pole, an enchanted forest and a nod to Visions of Sugar Plums, per the zoo's Facebook post. The same post describes the display as depicting sugar plums, an enchanted forest, the North Pole and other fantastical places and characters, bringing a storybook feel to the zoo's usual trails.
Guests will also find interactive photo moments along the route. The station's report notes that visitors can pose inside a giant lighted ornament, stroll through a sparkling tree farm, and stand beside an illuminated snowman that stretches nearly 11 feet tall.
Live Music and Seasonal Snacks
Holiday Lights will also offer weekly festive live entertainment and a special menu of cozy food and drinks, according to the zoo's Facebook announcement. The zoo has not detailed the performance schedule or menu items beyond that description.
Tickets are already on sale for Holiday Lights and several other seasonal offerings at the zoo, including Thanksgiving at the Zoo, the Wild Turkey Trot 3K, Holly Jolly Brunch and the Winter Sprinter 3K, per the same account from WFTV. The lineup suggests the zoo is treating this holiday season as a multi-event push rather than a single pop-up display.
A Different Kind of Nighttime Event Last Year
This is not the zoo's first foray into after-dark programming. A 2025 event called Lights On was billed as a nighttime art experience spotlighting endangered species, with guests able to explore the zoo after dark and enjoy glowing food and merchandise, according to a Florida Today search snippet. It is unclear how closely that earlier event is tied to this year's Holiday Lights launch.
With Jolly Days returning for daytime visitors and Holiday Lights opening for the first time after sunset, Brevard Zoo appears to be doubling its holiday footprint this season, giving Space Coast families both a sunlit and an illuminated way to celebrate.
