A Canterbury man was thrown from his motorcycle and airlifted to a Rhode Island hospital after crashing Monday, Nov. 2, on North Society Road in Brooklyn, Connecticut, state police said. Troopers responded to the single-vehicle wreck just before noon, and police said the man likely suffered life-threatening injuries.

According to CT Insider, the man was riding a 2005 Harley-Davidson southbound on North Society Road when he crossed onto the shoulder and struck rocks and trees. He was thrown from the bike in the impact and was flown from the scene by Life Star medical helicopter to Rhode Island Hospital.

No Update on Rider's Condition

As of Wednesday morning, state police had no update on the rider's injuries, the outlet reported. Connecticut State Police are investigating the crash, and no further details about what led the motorcycle to leave its lane have been released.

The crash is one of several motorcycle wrecks reported on Brooklyn-area roads in recent months. A crash involving a motorcycle closed Route 6 in Brooklyn in May and also caused life-threatening injuries, per a state police report cited by the same outlet. In July, a Canterbury motorcyclist was seriously injured in a crash on South Canterbury Road and taken to a local hospital, the report notes. A fatal Brooklyn motorcycle crash involving a Killingly man was reported in October 2025.

A Statewide Safety Concern

Motorcycle crashes carry outsized risk on Connecticut roads. The state's Department of Transportation has said more than 50 motorcyclists are killed in crashes in the state each year, with preliminary data showing 59 motorcycle-related fatalities in 2023, according to a CTDOT press release. Federal data has also flagged Connecticut specifically: a NHTSA report on 2023 motorcycle crashes found that 44 percent of motorcycle riders killed in the state were alcohol-impaired, compared with a 26 percent national average.

No cause has been determined for the Monday, Nov. 2, crash on North Society Road, and investigators have not released information about speed, road conditions, or other contributing factors. State police said the investigation remains ongoing.
