A woman sitting on a Capitol Hill street corner, drawing and asking passersby for spare change, was hit, kicked and stabbed in the hand by two men who approached her Monday evening, Seattle police said. One suspect later turned up at a hospital in Bellevue with injuries from the encounter, where officers arrested him and booked him into jail.

According to KOMO News, police said the woman told officers the two men had asked to see what she was drawing, and one of them made a vague comment about giving her money if she showed them something. She pulled out a knife and told the men to leave her alone, but police said the two then hit and kicked her, and one of them stabbed her in the hand. People nearby chased the men off before officers arrived.

Suspect Arrested After Showing Up at a Bellevue Hospital

Police said one of the suspects later went to a hospital in Bellevue seeking treatment for injuries he sustained during the confrontation. East Precinct officers responded to the hospital and arrested him there.

The brief exchange between strangers on a street corner escalated from a request to see the woman's artwork into a stabbing.

Not the First Capitol Hill Stabbing This Year

Early one Friday morning, a separate stabbing left two men injured near the corner of East Olive Way and Bellevue Avenue, according to FOX 13 Seattle. Officers responding around 2:26 a.m. found one victim with three stab wounds, and a bystander told them a second man had also been stabbed. Both victims' injuries were considered non-life-threatening, and FOX 13 reported no suspects had been identified in that case.

Other incidents have been logged by Seattle police over the past couple of years. On January 6, 2026, officers found a 30-year-old man with two stab wounds to the torso and transported him to Harborview Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries before arresting a 36-year-old man, according to the Seattle Police Department. In June 2025, witnesses described an altercation among several men in which a female suspect stabbed the victim before fleeing with a male suspect; officers caught the man and, after a short foot chase, the woman as well, per a separate Seattle Police Department account. And in March 2024, police responding to the 1500 block of 10th Avenue shortly before 2 a.m. found a 26-year-old man suffering from a stab wound, according to a department report on a stabbing investigated that spring.

Monday's case remains under investigation, and key details — including the suspect's identity, any charges, and the woman's medical condition — have not been made public.
