The Carrollton Police Department announced an arrest in an indecent assault case.

The Carrollton Police Department announced an arrest in an indecent assault case.

When officers arrived, they spoke with the patient, who said she woke up to a patient care technician sexually assaulting her while she was in her hospital bed. She identified the suspect as Ussin and reported that the sexual contact occurred without her consent, police said.

Detectives built their case and obtained an arrest warrant for Ussin on one count of indecent assault by a health care or mental provider, which police described as a state jail felony. The following day, detectives located and arrested him on that warrant. He was transported to the Carrollton jail and is set to be transferred to the Denton County jail, per the department's account.

Investigators Say More Victims May Come Forward

Police described the case as an active and ongoing investigation, and detectives said they believe there may be additional victims. The department is asking anyone who believes they were victimized by Ussin, or who has information about similar incidents involving him, to contact its Criminal Investigations Division at 972-466-3293.

At the same time, investigators said they believe the alleged conduct was limited to the hospital setting and reported no known ongoing threat to the public. The department has not released further details beyond its initial statement.

Not an Isolated Allegation Nationally

In September, the San Antonio Express-News reported that the wife of 32-year-old registered nurse Jesse Daniel Skaggs told police he had admitted to sexually assaulting two unconscious hospital patients while working in a hospital setting. The outlet reported Skaggs did not face criminal charges connected to those allegations at the time.

Around the same period, a Florida case drew attention after a 64-year-old patient reported being sexually assaulted during an MRI, after medication left her significantly drowsy, according to CBS 12. That station reported travel MRI technician Gabriel Cruz was arrested on a first-degree felony charge involving a physically helpless or incapacitated victim.

Anyone with information is urged to come forward as detectives continue piecing together what happened inside the Josey Lane facility.
