Charlie Royal has brought its coffee service to Eppig Brewing’s Waterfront Biergarten at 2817 Dickens St., offering its Royal Elixirs alongside traditional coffee drinks. The Point Loma shop is the San Diego-born brand’s first brick-and-mortar location, according to WhatNow San Diego.
The Peninsula’s urban mix
According to the City of San Diego, the Peninsula is a highly urbanized area with distinct residential neighborhoods, commercial core areas and regional recreational resources.
Charlie Royal began in 2021, when Grant Tondro and Nick Martin, rhythm guitarist for Sleeping with Sirens, started the brand during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to Beeralien. Tondro is also executive vice president of hospitality at Finest City Beverages, which WhatNow San Diego identified as a partner in the Point Loma shop’s opening.
The company has not committed to another shop. WhatNow San Diego reported that areas near downtown San Diego’s waterfront, Harbor Island and North County are among the possibilities, while the team focuses first on establishing the Point Loma operation.
The potential coffee-shop growth is one part of a broader venue strategy. San Diego Beer News reported that Tondro expected Finest City Beverages to open a handful of locations over the next year or so, diversify its beverage offerings and put greater emphasis on taprooms.
