A man was left critically injured early Saturday morning after a dispute over a Lime scooter or bicycle turned into a stabbing in Seattle's Chinatown-International District, according to police. Officers responded around 4:45 a.m. to the 1000 block of South Jackson Street, where they found the victim suffering from a stab wound to his torso. The suspect fled the scene and has not been located.
According to the Seattle Police Department Blotter, officers provided aid to the victim before Seattle Fire Department medics transported him to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition. Police say the victim and suspect had been arguing over the scooter or bike before the confrontation initially broke up. As reported by KING5.com, the suspect then approached and stabbed the victim after he had already walked away from the dispute.
Police described the attacker as a Black man wearing a gray ski mask and a gray jacket. He fled northbound on 12th Avenue on the scooter or bike involved in the dispute, per the same police account. Officers searched the area afterward but did not locate him, and the Seattle Police Department's homicide and assault unit is now leading the investigation.
A Recurring Flashpoint at 12th and Jackson
Saturday's stabbing happened just blocks from an intersection that has drawn scrutiny before. The area around 12th Avenue South and South Jackson Street was identified as one of Seattle's major crime hotspots back in 2022, according to Axios. The same stretch of South Jackson Street was also the site of a December 2024 stabbing, when a man was found with a stab wound to his lower back and taken to Harborview in serious but stable condition, per the Seattle Police Department Blotter.
The neighborhood has seen other violent incidents in recent years. In November 2024, police increased patrols in the CID after 10 people were stabbed over a 38-hour span, none fatally, Axios reported. A suspected attacker was being investigated in nine of those 10 stabbings, which occurred over two days that November. More recently, Seattle police investigated a stabbing in June 2026 that left two adult men critically injured in the same neighborhood.
Violent Crime Trending Down, Data Shows
Despite the string of high-profile incidents, crime-dashboard data cited by FOX 13 Seattle shows the CID actually saw a drop in violent crime in 2025 compared with 2023 and 2024.
No arrest has been announced in Saturday's stabbing, and the suspect's identity remains unknown. Police are asking anyone with information to call SPD's Violent Crimes Tip Line at 206-233-5000.
