Regional demand for AI skills

San Diego County had about 11,000 AI-related job postings in 2025. The share of postings requiring AI skills rose from 16 per 1,000 non-AI postings in 2023 to 33 per 1,000 in 2025, and more than 95,000 workers could face job transitions due to AI by the end of the decade if current adoption trends continue, according to the San Diego Workforce Partnership.

A local setting for hands-on learning

City Heights Community Development Corporation has built an AI lab intended for county residents. 10News reports that the space is expected to open to the public before the end of the year. Its planned activities include 90-minute workshops using tools such as Co-Pilot and Claude, with exercises ranging from budgeting to developing a model for a small-business loan. The station also reports that the facility has a robotics room for interacting with emerging technologies. The opening timeline and lab details are based on 10News’s reporting.

In comments reported by 10News, attendee Joseph Johnson described the training as relevant to people seeking to use AI in their own businesses. Another attendee, Austin Roth, emphasized the value of practical experience as the technology develops. Angel Stancer, the CDC’s vice president of workforce development and community impact, said such technology environments have often been beyond local residents’ reach. These remarks are attributed to 10News; they have not been independently verified here.

Other CDC career programs

The CDC has also offered an AI-focused career workshop covering machine-learning job matching and automated resume optimization, according to its workshop information. Separately, its CAREERworks initiative provides IT and cybersecurity training through a 10- to 12-week program with instructors, in-person labs, study materials, and exam fees. The CDC also lists one-on-one career support, including resume development, mock interviews, workshops, networking, and job-placement assistance, on its workforce-training page.
