El Punto, a new family- and dog-friendly Mexican restaurant from the founder of San Diego's City Tacos chain, is set to open Monday at Liberty Station, taking over an 8,800-square-foot indoor-outdoor space at 2885 Perry Road, Suite 102. The address has cycled through several previous tenants, and the new owners are betting their seafood-heavy menu and family-friendly amenities can finally make it stick.

According to San Diego Union-Tribune, El Punto replaces Go Go Amigo and El Jardín at the Liberty Station location, and the restaurant will open with walk-up counter ordering, QR-code ordering from tables, and full-service wait staff all operating under one roof.

The restaurant comes from Gerry Torres, who founded City Tacos, the six-store chain that launched in North Park in 2014. Torres was born in Mexico City and grew up in San Diego and Tijuana, and he said El Punto will be “decadent, affordable and casual, with menu options for everyone,” adding that he was eager to open the restaurant and add to Liberty Station's dining scene, per the same report.

A Menu Built Around Local Seafood

Earlier coverage from FSR magazine described El Punto's kitchen as focused on locally caught seafood, including ceviche, oysters with a Michelada twist, and tiraditos. That plan appears to have carried through to opening day: the menu, developed by executive chef Eduardo Baeza, features entrées, shareables and five of City Tacos' top-selling tacos, the Union-Tribune reports.

A kids menu will also be available.

Baeza, who was also born in Mexico City, has known Torres for more than 25 years. The two first worked together at the Downtown San Diego restaurant Candelas, the FSR report notes, and Baeza now serves as executive chef across all of Torres' properties, which include Fonda del Barrio in the Barrio Logan Cultural District and Tour de Tapas in La Mesa.

Drinks, Dogs and a Container Bar

El Punto's space is designed to match its family-and-dog-friendly billing. The restaurant will include indoor and covered patio dining, a bar with TVs, a kids area with games, and an enclosed dog park, offering both sit-down and quick-service options alongside play areas for children and pets, according to the Union-Tribune.

On the beverage side, the restaurant will feature a Michelada bar station and a shipping-container bar serving cocktails, draft beer and coffee. Rudy Corona is set to serve as bar director.

A Notoriously Tricky Address

Earlier coverage from SanDiegoVille previewed El Punto, and FSR reported an October 2026 target opening before the Nov. 9 opening now confirmed by the Union-Tribune.

The Perry Road address has had several occupants: El Jardín opened there in summer 2018 before abruptly closing after a little more than a year, reopening in 2019 as El Jardín Cantina. Go Go Amigo was another former occupant before El Punto.
