A driver who tried to outrun Clackamas County deputies ended up hiding in a tree, only to be tracked down by a K9 and taken into custody. The sheriff's office announced the arrest Thursday night in a brief news release shared on social media.
According to the Clackamas Sheriff
, deputies arrested the driver after the K9 located him hiding in a tree following the eluding incident. The announcement, posted under the handle @clackcosheriff, is the official X feed of the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office, which serves Clackamas County, Oregon. Sheriff James Rhodes succeeded Angela Brandenburg after her retirement.
Not the First Tree-Bound Standoff in the Area
This isn't the first time a Portland-area K9 team has cornered a suspect in the branches above. In late August, the Washington County Sheriff's Office reported that K9 Griff found a suspect roughly 20 feet up a tree during a separate incident, with a drone used to confirm the exact location before the driver came down on his own after about 45 minutes, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Office.
A separate case reported by Patch described Oregon City Police K9 Mac locating a man named Torney hiding at the base of a tree after he fled on foot during a car chase. That incident is a separate case from Thursday's Clackamas County arrest, and the details of the two should not be conflated.
The sheriff's office has not released the driver's name, the charges he faces, or a timeline of how the chase unfolded before he climbed into the tree.
