Plan for Friday’s event
Clark’s event listing, as reported by This Week in Worcester, schedules Roose for Friday, Nov. 6, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in Tilton Hall, 950 Main Street. A question-and-answer session and book signing are set to follow his remarks.
People planning to attend can submit questions through an online form before the event. The first 25 people to submit a question will receive a copy of Roose’s latest book at the talk, according to the university information reported by This Week in Worcester.
The book and the event’s sponsors
Roose’s latest book, The AGI Chronicles: The Inside Story of the Race to Create an Artificial Superintelligence, was published by Farrar, Straus and Giroux on Oct. 6. On its official site, the book is described as drawing on more than 150 interviews with people at OpenAI, Anthropic and Google DeepMind to examine efforts to develop artificial general intelligence.
The event is sponsored by Clark’s Honors Program, Clark Information Technology Services and the SoCR-AI-tic Lab for Collaborative Pedagogy, according to This Week in Worcester. Lab director and Clark faculty member Mark Jacobs says the lab develops and puts AI-supported teaching practices into use, according to his Clark faculty profile.
Clark’s event listing identifies Roose as a contributing writer at The Atlantic and co-host of NPR’s Machine Gods. The book’s site says he co-founded the show with Casey Newton.
