As reported by WKYC, the man died after sustaining the gunshot wound and making his way to the hospital on his own.
Investigation Still in Early Stages
The Cleveland Police Department confirmed it is investigating the shooting, with the case now in the hands of the department's Homicide Unit. Per the station's report, the man was pronounced dead at the hospital after arriving there himself. The 22-year-old's name had not been released as of Saturday night, and no suspect, weapon, or motive information has been made public.
Cleveland police officers were dispatched to Kerruish Park specifically after reports of gunfire, the same account notes, though the exact sequence connecting the shots-fired call to the man's arrival at the hospital has not been detailed publicly.
Part of a Mixed Year for Cleveland Violence
The Halloween shooting lands amid a year of largely static violent crime trends in Cleveland. The city recorded 48 homicides through June 2026, identical to the 48 homicides logged over the same stretch in 2025, according to Axios. That flat trend stood out nationally, since homicides fell 17.2% in the first half of 2026 across cities surveyed by the Major Cities Chiefs Association, and a separate Council on Criminal Justice analysis found an 18% drop among 30 reporting cities over the same period.
Within Cleveland, the picture was also mixed by crime type. Rape and robbery counts declined slightly during the first half of 2026 compared with the same period a year earlier, while aggravated assaults ticked up slightly, per the Axios analysis.
No further details on the Kerruish Park case have been released. Hoodline will update this story as new information becomes available.
