A Cobb County jury awarded a metro Atlanta woman $2.5 million after a 2023 rear-end crash on Cobb Parkway led to neck injuries and spinal fusion surgery, WSB-TV Channel 2 reported. The jury reached its decision on Oct. 23.
The case puts a local collision in the context of a broader road-safety question: whether intersection treatments can reduce rear-end crashes. In a study of low-cost treatments at signalized intersections, the Federal Highway Administration reported reductions in the crash types analyzed, including rear-end crashes. That result applies to the study’s sites; it does not show that a treatment was present at the Cobb Parkway location or explain how this crash occurred.
According to WSB-TV, the woman was turning right from Roberts Boulevard onto Cobb Parkway and stopped to yield to oncoming traffic when the vehicle behind her struck her car. The station reported that her treatment included injections, a DiscFX procedure and, ultimately, spinal fusion. The available account does not establish whether the intersection was signalized, a detail that matters when comparing this collision with the FHWA study.
The woman’s attorneys told WSB-TV that her injuries caused ongoing pain and affected her quality of life. The verdict is a case-specific outcome; the reported research offers broader context on intersection safety, not evidence about the jury’s reasoning or the cause of this collision.
