A Coon Rapids man accused of ties to the Highs gang was sentenced to 329 months in prison, or 27 years and five months, after pleading guilty to aiding and abetting second-degree murder in the 2023 shooting death of Patrick Henderson. Marquan Deshaun Tucker will receive credit for 696 days already served, and his other two murder cases, tied to separate shootings in 2022 and 2024, had also been legally resolved by the time of his Henderson sentencing.
Henderson, 26, was shot around 4:20 a.m. on July 30, 2023, near 26th Avenue and North Second Street in Minneapolis, where he was later pronounced dead, according to KSTP. Tucker is believed to have assisted in Henderson's killing outside the Minneapolis nightclub. Court records described Henderson as a reported member of the Lows gang, and investigators believe he was killed for the benefit of the Highs gang Tucker is allegedly a part of.
The case against Tucker leaned heavily on digital evidence and witness statements gathered well after the shooting. In 2025, investigators spoke to two witnesses who claimed Tucker had admitted to them that he had shot Henderson, the station's report states. Court documents also placed his phone in the area at the time of the shooting and noted that he left quickly afterward.
Facebook Messages and a Video Celebrating the Killing
According to court documents described in the KSTP report, Tucker messaged people on Facebook about attending the party before Henderson's murder. He is also accused of screen-recording a Facebook video showing Henderson lying on the ground after being shot, with captions on that video celebrating his death.
Those details, drawn from court filings, paint a picture investigators used to connect Tucker to the killing beyond the witness accounts. The sentence handed down this week resolves the Henderson case, but it is far from the only violent crime Tucker has been linked to in recent years.
Two Other Murder Cases Also Resolved
Tucker is charged in a total of three murder cases, per the same KSTP report. One stems from the 2022 killing of a man at the Mall of America, where Tucker allegedly blocked the entrance to a store, trapping the victim. In that case, Tucker was found guilty in juvenile court of aiding and abetting third-degree riot, a gross misdemeanor, in connection with the fatal shooting of Johntae Hudson, according to the Star Tribune.
The other case involves the 2024 shooting death of an alleged Lows gang member in Brooklyn Park. That case has already produced a conviction: Tucker was found guilty of second-degree murder and second-degree attempted murder, as reported by KSTP. CCX Media reported that the Brooklyn Park case centered on the fatal shooting of 23-year-old Ramone Blue in the parking lot at the Starlite Center, with a second victim surviving neck and leg injuries.
What the Law Allows
Minnesota's second-degree murder statute allows for a sentence of up to 40 years for the unintentional killing covered under that provision, according to the Minnesota Revisor of Statutes. That excerpt applies specifically to unintentional second-degree murder and does not by itself establish the exact sentencing framework used in Tucker's plea.
With the Henderson sentence now finalized, Tucker's legal exposure remains significant. Tucker has been found guilty in the Brooklyn Park case, and the Mall of America case had also been legally resolved by the time of the Henderson sentencing.
